What animals are allowed?

It is possible to travel to Switzerland with a bird. Indeed, birds are allowed in a maximum of 5 animals per trip as part of a non-commercial trip under certain conditions that we will explore. Please note, however, certain species, i.e. poultry (galliformes, ansériformes, colombiformes (intended for the production of meat) and struthioniformes) are not considered as domestic animals and cannot therefore be transported within the framework of a non-commercial trip.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Protected birds (ex: parrots, parakeets):
    • Epizootic policing provisions must be observed
    • You must respect the conditions for importing protected animals

What documents are required?

  • No specific document is necessary.

What animals are allowed?

It is possible to travel to Switzerland with a bird. Indeed, birds are allowed in a maximum of 5 animals per trip as part of a non-commercial trip under certain conditions that we will explore. What are the entry requirements?

  • Protected birds (ex: parrots, parakeets):
    • Epizootic policing provisions must be observed
    • You must respect the conditions for importing protected animals
  • The bird will undergo a border veterinary control (CVF), during opening hours. If the owner arrives outside these hours, the animal will be transferred to the border control post pet shop and will not be checked until the next working day.
  • Entry is only possible via Zurich or Geneva Airport.
  • The quarantine conditions must be satisfied before importation:
    • The animal has been kept in solitary confinement under official surveillance for at least 30 days or has been quarantined for at least 10 days and has been examined for avian influenza by an official veterinarian.
    • Birds must be transported to a household or other home and may participate in shows, fairs, exhibitions or other events involving birds no earlier than 30 days after their arrival.

What documents are required?

  • Minimum veterinary certificate in English or in one of the official languages of Switzerland.
  • Declaration of ownership
  • Costs may apply, so check with services. (transportation to the airport, detention at the pet store, customs duties, etc.)
  • The owner must be able to demonstrate when entering the territory that he was already in possession of the birds in the country of origin.
