What animals are allowed?

It is possible to travel to Austria with a bird. Indeed, birds are allowed in a maximum of 5 animals per trip as part of a non-commercial trip under certain conditions that we will explore. Please note, however, that certain species, i.e. poultry, are not considered to be domestic animals and therefore cannot be transported as part of a non-commercial trip.

What animals are allowed?

Please note, however, that certain species, i.e. poultry, are not considered to be domestic animals and therefore cannot be transported as part of a non-commercial trip.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Ornamental birds:
    • Subject to additional conditions (Decision 2007/25 / EC)
  • The bird must come from an OIE member country and be authorized.
  • The bird will undergo a border veterinary check (CVF), during opening hours.
    • If the owner arrives outside of these hours, the animal will be transferred to the border control post pet shop and will not be checked until the next working day.
    • The control will be carried out at the first authorized post of entry into the EU
    • The border veterinarian must be notified at least 1 working day in advance (Austria: 18 hours in advance); in writing.
  • Entry is only possible via Zurich or Geneva Airport.
  • The quarantine conditions must be satisfied before importation:
    • The animal was kept in solitary confinement under official surveillance for at least 30 days or,
    • Birds must be transported to a household or other home and may participate in shows, fairs, exhibitions or other events involving birds no earlier than 30 days after their arrival.
    • In addition, it must comply with one of the following:
      • Vaccinated in the last 6 months and at the latest 60 days before the trip against avian influenza using an authorized inactivated H5 and H7 vaccine,
      • Quarantined for at least 10 days before entering the EU and sampled and tested for H5 and H7 infection;
      • Comes from third countries listed in Regulation (EU) No 206/2010 and has undergone a 30-day quarantine in the country of origin in approved quarantine premises.

What documents are required?

  • Minimum veterinary certificate in English or German, and any other official state or animal language will carry out border checks.
  • The owner must be able to demonstrate when entering the territory that he was already in possession of the birds in the country of origin.
  • Certificate in accordance with the model in Annex II of Commission Decision 2007/25 / EC
  • Certificate in accordance with the model in Annex III of Commission Decision 2007/25 / EC
    • It will be confirmed that the animal will have had a quarantine of 30 days in the approved premises in the member country of destination (Regulation (EU) No 139/2013), or that the animal will be transferred to a residence within the EU where he will stay, and will not enter a fair, fair, exhibition, etc. for a period of 30 days.
    • In addition, it must comply with one of the following:
