Make your check-in

In the case of travel with an animal, the passenger must arrive at least 30 minutes in advance of the recommended check-in time.

Booking (animal):

  • By Call: The airline advises passengers to book the pet’s ticket within 24 hours of booking. In fact, if your pet is not accepted on the chosen flight with a request made within 24 hours, Air Canada allows the passenger to refund his ticket at no cost. However, if the passenger wishes to change the booking or cancel the booking after 24 hours, this will cause additional costs.

Service animals

Service animal

  • This service is available to passengers travelling between Canada and the United States; passengers who have purchased a ticket for an Air Canada flight from a U.S. carrier (the ticket will then bear the U.S. carrier’s number, e.g. UA7811 by United Airlines)
  • Free transport, at the foot of the passenger
  • A harness is required for the animal.
  • Passengers must notify the airline at least 48 hours before or 72 hours for certain destinations. If prevented in a shorter time frame, the company will do everything possible to meet the demand. It can ask for a place with more floor space.
  • The passenger holds identification, other written documents, tags, harnesses, credible verbal confirmation to confirm that the animal is a service animal.
  • If the flight lasts 8 hours or more, the passenger must notify the airline at least 48 hours before the flight
  • Passenger arrives one hour before the recommended check-in time

Emotional or psychiatric support dog

  • This service is available for intra-Canada flights
  • The passenger must have a certificate certifying that the animal has been trained by a professional service animal training agency to assist a person with a disability
  • Passengers must notify the airline at least 48 hours before
  • A letterhead dated less than one year from a licensed mental health professional must be provided stating:
    • the passenger suffers from a mental or emotional disability recognized by DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders);
    • The passenger needs your dog as an emotional or psychiatric support animal during the trip or once you arrive at their destination;
    • The certified mental health professional who wrote the document
    • the fact that the passenger is currently being followed by the licensed mental health professional who wrote the document.

Passenger location

Passengers should not sit in the rows where the emergency exits are located, or in a bulkhead row. Passengers must travel in the Privileged Economy cabin.

The animal must be fed between four and six hours before departure. Water must be given to the animal until departure, however the passenger must ensure that the container is emptied at check-in to avoid spillage. Finally, the container must be left in the container to allow the agents to drink the animal.
