Air Malta – Animals on board

Air Malta is a Malta airline.

Animals are accepted in the cabin by Air Malta.

Animals are accepted in the hold by Air Malta.

Make your check-in

Passengers travelling with an animal in the hold must check-in at least 3 hours before the flight departs, with all necessary documentation.

Booking (animal):

• Booking must be made up to 5 working days before departure for a trip in the hold

Destinations

Service animals

• Free transport
• Available service: Guide Dogs, Dogs for the Hearing Impaired, Service Dogs
• The animal must be trained and approved by an organisation that meets the criteria of the International Federation of Guide Dogs or the Association Assistance Dogs International
• The animal is identified via a harness (or other) with a service dog logo
• The animal must be clean, not smell bad
• The animal is obedient, it behaves correctly
• Passenger must:
  • Notify the company by call 48 hours before departure
  • Notify the airline by call 7 days before departure for a flight to/from the UK
  • Have a prescription by DEFRA for a trip to the UK
  • Inform the Malta Veterinary Office for a trip to/from Malta
  • Hold an absorbent mat
  • Hold the necessary documents for transport: transit, export, import, identity document, medical certificate
  • In the event of a fine, loss or problem resolved by Air Malta; The passenger will have to reimburse the airline
• The company reserves the right to refuse the animal to comply with the various safety regulations of laws, in which case, the company will take care of a solution (transport in the hold, re-track, refund …)
• In case of bad behaviour: The company may request that the animal be wearing a muzzle, or move to the hold, or that transport be refused

Health conditions

• Minimum age: 15 Weeks
• A consultation by a licensed veterinarian is carried out up to 3 days before departure. This consultation confirms the fitness to travel, good health in an appropriate section of the passport

• Pets accepted: Dogs, Cats
• Specific Conditions: Should not be a minor
• Maximum weight: 10 KILOS (INCLUDING CONTAINER)
• Unserved destinations: Malta to the UK; United Kingdom: valid only outside the country

The trip

Container location

The animal should not be placed on the lap or in a passenger seat.

Passenger location

Passengers should not sit in the seats next to an upper wing, the main exit (row 1) and restricted seats, in addition, they must be on a window side seat. In case of business class travel, and in a single available row (row 1), the passenger and the animal will be moved to economy class, a partial refund will be made.
